Vincent "Buddy" Cianci Jr. started his career as an assistant attorney general for Rhode Island. As the head of the organized crime division, he helped prosecute a murder case that put him up against the most notorious mob boss in the country. The trial made him famous, and he successfully ran for his first mayoral term in 1974. After serving nearly a decade as Mayor of Providence, Buddy was run out of office due to a felony assault conviction. He then mounted an unlikely comeback in the 1990 mayoral race to return to his old post at City Hall.
