Eager to make a difference in Providence's poor neighborhoods, Arlene Violet joined the Sisters of Mercy Convent in the 1960s. She then decided to go to Boston College Law School, and in 1984 she successfully ran for Rhode Island Attorney General. As Attorney General, Violet made efforts to implement financial reform.
