Vincent "Buddy" Cianci Jr. started his career as an assistant attorney general for Rhode Island. As the head of the organized crime division, he helped prosecute a murder case that put him up against the most notorious mob boss in the country. The trial made him famous, and he successfully ran for mayor in 1974. Six years later, he was slaughtered in the Rhode Island gubernatorial race after Providence spiralled into a fiscal crisis.

Buddy appears in Chapters 13 and 5.

I didn’t sell myself out, but, you know. You have to make arrangements.
